Folks, from now on, my Substack will be where I share with you my linguistics podcast Lexicon Valley.
As many of you know, Mike Vuolo and I did that podcast for Slate for many years, after Mike and my now Booksmart colleague Bob Garfield had helmed the show for years before that. However, last summer we took the show to our new podcast emporium, Booksmartstudios.org.
That is: the show continues, despite that Slate now archives the shows we did for them under the title of the language podcast that replaced ours under their banner, Spectacular Vernacular. This makes it seem as if Lexicon Valley somehow evanesced; it did not — it is at Booksmart, and here, and still kicking after ten years.
So — as always, every two weeks I do a show about what moves me. Usually more topical than my shows up to last summer, but the essence is the same, including the show tunes. If you perhaps read me in the New York Times but want a more carbonated version of me, you will find it here.
And don’t forget to listen also to my sister podcasts Banished (with Amna Khalid) and Bully Pulpit (with Bob Garfield).
Yay!!!! So happy you’re back on substack 😊😊😊
Thanks so much! I missed Lexicon Valley but, alas, I never got around to searching for it after it continued away from Slate. Sorry about that. It will be like getting re-acquainted with an old friend.
